Background: When thinking of promoting an organization or event, the form of a poster is one of the very first ideas that comes to mind. Flat, 2D Rectangular posters that presents direct information are the most ubiquitous, as well as social media posts that fit in the rectangular/square format.
Challenge
While the format of a poster is effective and appropiate as seen with its wide usage, the brief questions for different formats for promoting an event. Are there different ways of delivering information while generating intrigue? Can it be more intimate? Can we shift conventions?
The objective of the brief was to explore different formats to deliver information and to generate intrigue. We were to promote and create content for the "No Poster Show."
Solution
In order to build intrigue, I decided to focus on participatory action.
To promote the show, I created a layered flyer with a 4 x 4 circle grid (as seen in Figure 1). To engage the audience, I used morse code on the flyer. Each part of the grid had a letter of the flyer's content. The corresponding takeaway has translation to the morse code letter.
In order to decipher the content of the flyer, each person who takes the ticket will have to regroup at the No Poster Show and work together to decode the message.
For the exhibition piece, I recreated the grid on a larger scale, having the morse code on the circles, having people use clues from the first poster to put decode the message and put together pieces to create the exhibit piece.
